Lichen Colonies on Maple Tree in Neighborhood - Texture

Yesterday I was walking in the neighborhood and foiund some lichen colonies on a maple tree.  I was intrigued because there was a lot of  a golden color there.  I was disappointed that the images I took were not as sharp as I had hoped. Should have done a playback instead of relying on the LED screen. Oh well, I hope to get back and try again when there is more sunshine.  Sometimes you can salvage an image using apps.   Taken with Camera+. Post processing done with PSE 11.  Left image has just increase in highlights & mid-tones, then sharpened a lot to give texture.
I had taken the image at an angle rather than landscape. changed mode to square, and tried to do macro which uses digital zoom--not as good as optical zoom.  The right image I used a "Saturated Film" filter in PSE 11.  You can even see the green moss in the cracks if you are able to enlarge the image.

Lichen on Laurel Bluff Trail and Invert Filter of Same Image

Another image of a lichen on the Laurel Bluff Trail, GSO, NC.  The image on the right was taken with Camera+ HDR.  I increased the contrast & sharpened in PSE 11. Then tried various filters and liked the invert mode in PSE 11 as I could see more texture even with the wood chips almost looks like ice or glass.--another image that may have potential in a digital college.

Lichen Colony in the Neighborhood - Macro

This image should have been posted on July lst but had
family in from out of  town and my time was spent with
them not the computer.
I was walking in the neighborhood a few days ago and saw this
lichen colony on one of my neighbor's trees. Tried to take in Macro
mode with Camera+ & HDR mode.  It was a convex surface...so the lower right corner is not sharp. This image may remind you of peeled paint.  This lichen colony has an interesting pattern and texture.
Post processing I used PSE 11. I did increase the shadows, midtones, sharpen slightly and then used a color variation to decrease the red and increase the green.  I have seen other varieties of lichens on rocks and on walks in the woods. There are even botanists that specialize in lichens.

Tree Bark with Diagonal Texture & Invert Variation

I found a tree on my walk yesterday that had a deep diagonal pattern in it's barkamd some very small patches of lichens. Not sure what kind of tree as leaves just now starting to come out.  It looked like a great image to use for texture "as is" or to play with various filters in PSE or other photo apps.  The image on the left is the orginal with some adjustment of shadows, midtones and sharpened in PSE 11.  The  image on the right I further enhanced by darkening.2 steps and increased the red by 3 steps.in color variations in PSE 11.

Lichens - Close up on Dead Log

I have always been facinated by lichens on dead tree branches/logs.
Their structure makes a very interesting texture when you look at them close up.  Some are different colors and can even have what appear like micrp blooms.  The left images I edited with the native camera app and the right one I increased the highlights and sharpened in PSE 11.  These were taken in March before officially spring
