Ladder Sculpture - Part 2 Downtown Greensboro, NC - Endownment of the Arts 2015

Finally caught up to the date.
I used the same reduced size image from the original posted yesterday to experiment a little with black and white.and then invert the image with a filter to give an infrared look on the right image. The post editing was done in PSE 11. The B& W image I maxed the shadows, highlights, midtones and then increased the darkness & contrast to get the effect I wanted. The clouds give a textured background to the image. Plan to take more images of this sculpture at different times of the day.  May not have any clouds next time. These images were taken about  5:45 p.m. EDST with native iPhone 5C.

Ladder Sculpture Downtown Greensboro, NC - Endownment of the Arts 2015

These images should have been posted Sun., Sept. 13th.  This is part of a sculpture for Endowment of the Arts that was done in conjunction with the 2015 Folk Festival in Greensboro, NC.  The scculpture itself contains over 500 ladders donated by 300 people.     Since there were a lot of people looking at the sculpture at ground level I decided to shoot for a design in the sky with the intention that I would play with filters and see what altered art or patterns I could use with these images.   The original image on the left is unedited.  It is a downsized file for the web so you will see some pixelization which can happen with lines. It was shot in HDR native 5C iPhone.  The right image was maximizing shadows, highlights, midtones  in PSE 11, and then applied the Saturatured Film effect x 4. Sharpening would have pixelated this image further.  I do plan to work with the original iPhone image before reduciing the file size for the web.  Plan to try more filters in various photo apps.  Tomorrow for the next images I post you will see B & W and and the negative (invert) of the same which reminds me of infrared.

Garden Fairy on a Frog Garden Sculpture

I was at my hairdressers on Tuesday.  On my way out to my car I noticed a garden fairy in a pot on her patio. Love garden sculpture.  Compared to the plants in the pot this is a macro. Shot with native camera iPhone 6.  Used PSE 11 to crop, increase midtones, but did not sharpen as it would have been evident. Applying a vignette filter also affected edges of the fairies extremities and did not like that look.

RDU Sculpture Plus Saturated Film Effect Filter

Went to RDU airport on Mon. evening to pick up my daughter.  Saw this art schulpture?? that was also within the frame of a high window at the airport the baggage claim area was below it.. I took the picture because of the lines but was unable to get any kind of symetry.  I did straigthen in PSE 11 but this was the best I could do.  It is something other than a flower.  Might be able to incorporate in a digital collage in the future. Tried a saturated film effect x4 to get more colors of the structure.for the image on the right.

Shadows from Railing Sculpture at GSO Arboretum

Another image from the GSO arboretum.  I liked the pattern of the leaves with the flourish effect from the railing sculpture but could not figure out how to get more of the sculpture itself and the shadows that were cast on the footboard.for a reflection.  I thought it was an interesting design.  It was taken around noon on a bright sunny day.  I played around with filters in PSE 11 and like the note paper one with the white background which is on the right. Probably I could this pattern as part of a digital collage.

Wind Chimes Sculpture in Winter - GSO Arboretum.

Today I was at the Greensboro Arboretum looking for spring flowers or something I could use for my  challenge image.  This is a wind chime sculpture that has been in place for some time.  Recently they have added a ring walkway around  it. Usually there is green foliage in the background but I like the bare trees and blue sky.  I did take in HDR mode so sky is more blue.  I used the Camera + app to take the picture and to edit.  I cropped and used clarity.  It is not as noticeable on this small scale but there is a piece of wood leaning against one of the center posts.  On the small LED screen difficult to see.  I am not very good about remembering to enlarge the image to check for clutter/debris.  Then it shows up on the monitor and it is too late to remove and retake the image. At a public park removal can be an issue.

Sculpture Downtown Greensboro - Life & Culture (Courthouse Plaza)

Guess I am not getting out to take images of more spring flowers this a.m. So, am posting an image of a sculpture I took on a sunny day in downtown GSO. It is a copper swing gate that shows various aspects of life or famous people that have impacted our culture. Difficult to get everything showing due to shadows of the sun at about noon. I wanted to include the building in the background go give a sense of place. No editing of the image. HDR mode on iPhone 5S. This might be one to try a vertical panorama in the future.

Coffee Cup Collaborative Walk - Education

I had read about The Greensboro Coffee Cup Collaborative Walk which features sculptures of coffee cups representing different life venues. Check out the URL:
http://www.gpsmycity.com/…/greensboro-coffee-cups-collabora… The  downtown library has one for education which was between the libarary and that parking garage off Church St. Even though I took this one with cloudy conditions, I wanted to play with some in-camera apps for my posting today. I used the native camera app.  Then I enhanced with PS Express app in my iPhone 5s. I cropped, changed the lighting, and applied some filters which actually made the cup look gold instead of copper. Will try again on a sunny day. There are more sculptures in the Greensboro Coffee Coffee Collaborative Walk-- most of them downtown  and considered a walking tour except for the one at the Greensboro Coliseum. I will try again for a sunny day. with the close up it is difficult to judge the size. I am guessing maybe 10" x 10". Finding a plain background is not going to happen in this urban area. I would have loved to have had a stepstool to take the cup from the top like a "bird's eye" view. Stay tuned for more postings.
