Last Thursday I was in downtown Greensboro and saw rust splotches various places on a dumpster.
I spent at least 1/2 hr taking images of these because of textures and designs. I knew when I was taking the image that I would want to be using some apps or altering the images--just in case I ever get around to making digital collages. So, this week I will post a rust image every day. Some I used the native app or Camera+ and I did not take notes, don't remember if I did HDR or not since it was an overcast day but it is usually the default setting. Some I was showing my husband various filters and the program did not save a copy. So, you do have to be careful about destructive editing. The left image was clarified in camera in PS Express and I am not sure what filter I applied to get the colors. This image was rotated 90 degrees as I liked that composition better. I can't show the original but you will see others with a muted turquoise background. The image on the right I rotated to the right another 90 degrees, sharpened and then in PSE 11 I changed enhancement in color variations the color by decreasing red highlights x2 which resulted in blues and greens.which reminds me of a churning sea.
I love both these images. Who would have thought a dumpster contained such beautiful images! Your editing really brings out the colours and textures, and I think they'd make wonderful abstract art if printed big on canvas. If I was being critical, I'd suggest cropping both slightly to remove the horizontal lines - on the blue one it's at the bottom, and on the orange one it's at the top. They're both a little distracting, and I don't think removing them would ruin the composition or balance. Hope you're planning more in the series. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deborah I had considered not including that edge of the dumpster which is the line you see. I flipped the image for the blue and green one. I will definitely have enough images for this week but I would like to go back when sun shining on the East and South side to see if can get any different texture and color. We have had 10 days of rain and clouds. Tomorrow we get sunshine which the iPhone likes. Another filter you may want to check out if you are into altered art. I would recommend paying as the free version has pop ups all the time. It is called MegaPhoto. If you alter an image it lets you take a picture of it. I like to apply kaleidoscopes to flower images. You can even put your face in Mona Lisa. LOL I use this blog as my virtual journal so I can remember my thoughts after 365 days.
